I wish I could provide a link to the starred review of Cure that appears in Booklist, but it is only available to subscribers. So I'll have to settle for quoting a snippet: "A Cure for Night is a truly compelling first novel. It successfully mixes several factors -- including a gritty, realistic, and thoughtful look at the criminal justice system; the moral and ethical crevasses of criminal law; and good storytelling--into a taut delight."
On a side note, it now comes as a complete surprise to me when an article that has appeared in print somewhere is not also available for free online. It's a remarkable transformation, this assumption that all print content should be available, free of charge, on your computer. As someone trying to make a living off the written word, I admit my feelings on the issue are complicated; I don't think any of us fully understand what the business model of newspapers and magazines is going to look like in ten years.
